Fairchild C-119c Flying Boxcar

The project for 2009-10 was actually started in late September 2009 and should be blamed almost entirely on my friend George Becker. He bought Palmer Plans for a C-119 several years ago and decided that I should build it. Well let me tell you that the plans are very nearly unusable. However, thru shear determination and a large amount of stupidity an enlarged aircraft is emerging. Who knows if it will fly or not. One thing it's got going for it is my good friend Bob Walker is building the gear and I know it will be a work of art! The plane is about 13.3% of scale giving it a wingspan of 177". It will be powered with 2 GT-80's.

April 18, 2010. Clear and cold day. As usual I was wrong. The plane took off after a fast taxi with no problem at all. It actually handled rather sprightly with little real trim problem. Flew for about 7 minutes and landed uneventfully. Bob's gear worked flawlessly. The second flight was more of the same with no unusual tendencies. Landing was with full flaps and it flaired nicely with little trim. Perhaps a bit more power.

May 8-15 Attended Joe Nall with the plane. For the most part it flew well however, on the last flight of the week I did damage the nose gear with a poor landing.
